Presentation of the Degree

The Bachelor's degree in Preschool Education confers general teaching competences to support pupils’ development, supervise learning and promote the achievement of the objectives established by the education system for early childhood education.

With a total of 240 ECTS credits, the structure of the subjects is articulated around the areas of the official curriculum, together with training subjects in the psychopedagogical field, practices in school contexts and a percentage of optional contents.  Specifically, practices in school contexts have an important weight in the degree of Preschool Education (44 credits in total) and are carried out in the second year (6 credits), third year (14 credits) and fourth year (24 credits). 

The generalist professional profile of this degree will enable graduates to teach all general education classes in preschool education and their interdisciplinary relationship. Professionals graduating from this degree will also be able to educate their students to become an integral part of society.

Career opportunities

The responsibilities of Early Childhood Education teachers include different fields: educational action with each student, the class group, the educational center, the family, the community and the educational administration. The areas of work are:

  • Teaching in educational centers with boys and girls from 0 to 3 years old and from 3 to 6 years old.
  • Early childhood care services and programs aimed at supporting the family, family spaces and mother-and-child programs.
  • Leisure and cultural services, such as playrooms and children's libraries, among others.
  • Elaboration of educational materials.
  • Shelter centers for children and young people supervised by the Administration.
  • Educational support services at school.
  • Self-employment in complementary educational services.
